In South Carolina, an educator can add certification areas to professional or continuing licenses. Teachers interested in adding ESOL certification must successfully complete coursework and take the Praxis exam. However, it is not necessary to have completed these before being hired as a Multilingual Learner Program teacher or specialist (formerly called ESOL teacher).
