Our History
The South Carolina Multilingual Learner Educator Network (SCMLE) began in 2019 as a grassroots effort to connect ML educators across the state. What started as a small Facebook group quickly grew into a vibrant professional community, offering support, shared strategies, and encouragement.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SCMLE published its first collaborative resource and began hosting regular professional development. Now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we offer monthly training, advocacy support, and diverse classroom resources, including books to over 4,350 students through our Diverse Book Bank.
Today, SCMLE empowers educators through virtual and in-person learning, policy engagement, and a growing network of passionate teachers. Together, we’re building a more inclusive, supportive future for South Carolina’s multilingual learners.
