Diverse Book Bank
Diverse Book Bank
South Carolina teachers need access to books that reflect the languages, cultures, and experiences of their students, but finding affordable options can be a challenge. Through our Diverse Book Bank, we distribute culturally and linguistically diverse books to South Carolina classrooms so more students can see themselves represented in the books they read and learn about experiences beyond just their own.
We pair book distributions with instructional resources created by South Carolina teachers through our Book of the Month initiative, and we offer free book studies that bring educators in our network together to explore diverse books and learn from one another.
Where We've Shared Books
What teachers are saying:
"As an ML educator, I often feel forgotten in my school district. Our department struggles with a lack of funding for more teachers and resources. However, this network gives me the extra support I need, as well as tools to help my teammates and the teachers and students I work with."
"This story helped me empathize more deeply with the refugee families I've met here in our community."
"I love the Book of the Month program!"
"The book studies are wonderful in that they provide an insight into what challenges students have during their journey to the U.S. and then once arriving in the U.S. Not only are the book studies wonderful, but they keep teachers and administrators informed about the laws and changes happening in our state."
